World of Ringing

Nearly 6000 towers have bells hung for English style ringing.

See where all these towers are .

Ringers are served by around 70 ringing societies that between them cover all areas where there is English style ringing.

ODG logoThe Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bellringers is the largest, with around 2600 members. It is divided into 15 Branches. Wokingham is in the Sonning Deanery Branch, which has 17 towers with rings of bells. Wokingham has two 8-bell towers: All Saints and St Paul's. CC logoRinging societies are affiliated to the Central Council of Church Bellringers , which provides co-ordination and support across all aspects of ringing, including: training, bell restoration, Public Relations, and various technical aspects. The Council represents territorial societies, university societies and societies associated with various professions. See a list of affiliated societies here. The Council's work is mostly undertaken by its working committees .

The RInging WorldRingers have their own weekly Newspaper, The Ringing World, which has been published since 1911. Its offices are in Hampshire, UK, and it is read by ringers around the world.

A worldwide welcome

There are around 40,000 ringers worldwide, but being a ringer is like being a member of a (very) big extended family. As a ringer, wherever you travel in the world, if there are ringers, then you have potential friends.

A ringer walking into a ringing practice anywhere in the world - from Wokingham to Wagga Wagga - is likely to be asked three questions:

If you are visiting Wokingham and you are a ringer, then you will be welcome to come and ring with us at All Saints.

If you are not a ringer, you will be welcome to visit us anyway, and see what ringing is all about. See when we ring.
