The sound of the bells

The sound was much improved by tuning the bells to modern standards. Using a large lathe, small amounts of metal were carefully removed from different parts of the bell to change the frequency of the different partial tones that make up the sound, and bring them into thew correct musical ratios. The graphs show the improvements and the pictures show some of the tuning marks.
